Basta Trattoria (1006 Chapel St), the latest gastronomic treat from Claire and Frank Criscuolo, features cuisine inspired by Italy’s Amalfi region, warm lighting, wood flooring, a gorgeous ceiling mural and enough tables to make it cozy without feeling crowded. By making over the 780 square foot space, the Criscuolos have fulfilled a long standing dream and brought a slice of Southern Italian hospitality to Downtown as only two lifelong restaurateurs could.
Restaurant Week MenuBasta also happens to be conveniently located next door to Claire's Corner Copia, the couple's original Downtown eatery that has celebrated over thirty years at the corner of College and Chapel Streets. After owning and operating a vegetarian and kosher establishment for three decades, the couple looks forward to offering cuisine that is "not vegetarian, not kosher, and not alcohol free." By opening Basta, this dynamic duo hopes to further their commitment and passion for serving high-quality and wholesome food to the Greater New Haven community using only environmentally-friendly ingredients from local organic and sustainable farms. Long-standing supporters of New Haven through their charity work, Claire and Frank will also hold weekly fundraisers for local groups known as "Meaningful Mondays." Says Claire, "The best way to learn about other people's history is through their food - it promotes the bonds of friendship."

- Caesar salad – classic Caesar salad with organic romaine hearts, housemade croutons, and housemade Caesar dressing with parmesan cheese
- Mussels and clams zuppa – Prince Edward Island mussels and baby cockle clams with garlic, parsley and white wine in a San Marzano tomato broth with housemade friselle

- Pollo Milanese – thinly pounded free-range chicken breast, lightly breaded and pan fried in extra virgin olive oil with mashed organic potato and organic greens

- Rigatoni alla vodka – rigatoni pasta tossed with our san marzano tomato and vodka cream sauce with parmesan
