Elm City Cocktail Competition
No longer will pizza be the only defining epicurean delight of New Haven. Introducing the 2010 Elm City Signature Cocktail!
In a showdown that will pit the area’s premier bartenders in a muddle-to-muddle battle, the first-ever Elm City Cocktail Competition will culminate with one winning cocktail becoming the signature drink of New Haven’s finest dining establishments.
Held Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, the cocktail battle will feature bartenders from 116 Crown, Bar 19, BAR, Bentara, Bespoke, Dolci, Heirloom, Ibiza, Leon's, and Miya's. Each cocktail contender will have limited time to prepare a cocktail for a panel of celebrity judges including Desiree Fontaine of WTNH, Pat Ferrucci of New Haven Register, TJ Gallagher of The Wine Thief and Mark Scarbrough and Bruce Weinstein, authors of The Ultimate Cookbook. Cocktails will be judeged based on appearance, originality and, of coursem taste. Mike Lapitino of WPLR will serve as the mixology master of ceremonies
Will 116 Crown bring their tour-de-force cocktail crafting skills to the table or will Miya’s wow the judges with their homemade and decidedly potent sake set? Perhaps Bespoke will come with their side attack plan and bring caramelized fruit garnish to give their drink one-up. Or maybe BAR, home to in-house brewed beer, will offer a cocktail that takes everyone by surprise.
Since no cocktail party is complete without munchies Atticus Bookstore/Cafe, Bru Rm at Bar, Calabro Cheese Co., Dryden & Palmer Co., Foxon Park Beverages Inc., The Gracious Gourmet, St. Germain and The Wine Thief will provide tasty treats for all to enjoy.
